Finland, one postal code at a time

Suomiatlas puts the statistics of Finland's ~3,000 postal code areas on a single map: income, population, age structure, education, employment, housing, dwelling sale prices, crime and air quality — with history back to 2010.

What you can do with it

Look up any address by postal code and read what the area is actually like: who lives there, what they earn, what dwellings cost, how the place has changed over ten years.

Compare areas side by side, rank the whole country by any metric, and find the areas most similar to one you already know.

Every figure is benchmarked three ways — against the country, the municipality and the region — so a number always arrives with the context that makes it mean something.

Where the data comes from

Statistics Finland's Paavo dataset, its dwelling price and recorded-offence statistics, and air quality observations from the Finnish Meteorological Institute. All of it open data under CC BY 4.0.

The method is written out, including what the data cannot tell you: a postal code area is not a neighbourhood, crime figures are municipal, and air quality is the nearest station's reading.
