In 2024 Suomiatlas’s own 0–100 family-friendliness composite ranged among postal-code areas with at least 1000 residents: Helsinki 8–73, Espoo 7–74, Tampere 12–75 and Turku 12–77. This is Suomiatlas’s own composite, not an official Statistics Finland or Paavo statistic.
What the score measures
The score combines five signals, turned into national percentiles and weighted: family share 30%, small-house share 20%, floor area per person 20%, child dependency 15%, and five-year family influx 15%. Data year 2024. The signals are described; areas are not labelled “unfriendly.”
This is not the same as the gentrification or income-momentum stories.
Two cohorts
The product scores every area with a computable composite: 2811 areas in
2024. This article also requires he_vakiy ≥ 1000, so the national story cohort
is 1093. City cohorts are Helsinki 79, Espoo 42, Tampere 34 and Turku 25.
The product does not rank 1093; a within-city rank is not the product rank.
The display value is the raw score rounded to an integer.

Lowest means the lowest area in each city’s floored set, not automatically the city centre. Espoo: lowest is Otaniemi (a campus); Tapiola is 17. Tampere: lowest is Kaleva; Tampere Keskus is about 14, near the bottom.
The national floored top is Lepsämä at 81 — context only, not the lead claim.
Why low scores
Helsinki, 00510 vs 00670: family share 8% → 35%, small-house share 0.9% → 98%, floor area 29.8 → 39.6 m²/person, child dependency 9% → 39%, family influx −1.2 → +1.6 percentage points. The same pattern also shows in these cities: Espoo, Tampere and Turku. Low family share and near-zero small-house share account for half the score weight.
